Day 15 – York / Stratford upon Avon - Friday, January 17th 2014: Tania Vial

This morning we visited the York Minister, a magnificent Gothic cathedral (consecrated in 1472) which stands on the site of an Ancient Roman Basilica; the remains of which can still be seen today. The cathedral is a masterpiece in stained-glass and stone.
I am always amazed at how much time was devoted to producing  the masterpieces we see all over Europe and in terms of early civilizations like the Vikings, how painstakingly time consuming the production of simple everyday goods such as shoes, pots and other essentials was….No mass production line here! How different things are today.

A young mother staying in the same hostel in Bath has just commented on the boys’ good manners: “They have such good manners; they have just held the door open for me three times!” …Good to know the boys are representing the school well!
