Day 4 – Assisi - Monday, January 6th 2014: Dr Linda Vining

Assisi, city of saints preserves its historical nucleus as the home of St Francis, but it has so much more to offer the visitor.

Built on a step hill and surrounded by a medieval wall, the fortress town is a treasure trove of surprises.

The steep jaunt up the ancient pathways reveals enchanting piazzas, art treasures, craftsmen at work and a plethora of boutique hotels standing between churches and small stones houses. The only route is up and the only view is of the magnificent valley below, especially as the sun goes down.
