Today we travelled by bus to Assisi, a
medieval mountain top village (Home of St. Francis, St. Clare and St Damian).
When we arrived, we were taken on a tour of the village, we were told about the
life of St. Francis and St. Clare and were able to see 2 churches where the
bodies of St. Francis and St. Clare were
buried. After this, we were given free time to explore Assisi. We split up into
groups and there were six people in my group (me, Reece, Robert, James,
Sebastien and Ms Vial). We had something to eat at a Pizzeria and then went
exploring. At 5pm we went to the town
centre to see la Befana climb down from a building. Unfortunately, we had to
leave before la Befana reached the ground as we had a bus to catch to our
hotel. (La Befana is celebrated on the
Epiphany (6th of Jan) and recalls the 3 wise men’s visit to baby Jesus. Legend
claims that the wise men asked La Befana to join them in visiting the new born,
but she told them she did not have the time and ever since she has been
wandering from house to house searching for Him.)
